Bro. Atwoli Officially Opens the 10th EATUC SUMMIT

The East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC) opened its 10th Summit in Nairobi under the auspice of the theme:
“The Challenge of Regional Integration and Role of Trade Unions in Africa”.
The well attended summit attracted several participants from the five member countries of East Africa, as well as partners and dignitaries who are authorities in Labour Issues. In his address to the Summit the COTU-K Secretary General who is also the EATUC Chairperson stressed on the need for Member states of EAC need to be more honest and transparent in their dealing to nurture cohesiveness and to subdue mutual suspicion that have seen some member states seem to be lukewarm to wards the integration process.
Bro. Atwoli highlighted the fact that EATUC was very vigilant to ensure the smooth harmonization implementation of the signed Common Market Protocol that took place in 2010 to guarantees free movement of labour across East Africa Countries. He stressed that EATUC will always advocate and campaign for workers to enjoy the full benefits that come with this Protocol. he vowed to that EATUC will not rest until the Common Market Protocol is achieved and policy documents and recommendations are well developed.
In his typical off the calf remarks, The EATUC Chairman bemoaned the runaway corruption levels in Kenya that is scaring away investors and making East African states develop cold feet ion doing joint infrastructure ventures with Kenya, giving the Example of the decision by Uganda to abandon the Joint Pipeline with Kenya and instead opting to do it with Tanzania. He said that corruption was at an all time high in Kenya and that if the situation is not arrested Kenya is likely to loose its strong position as a regional hub and biggest economy.

Peter Werikhe Secretary General NOTU, Bro. Tharcisse Gahung the Secretary General COSYBU of China, Bro. Eric Manzi the Secretary General CESTRA, Bro. Dr. Mohammed Mwamadzingo the ILO Head of Africa Desk and Sis. Caroline Mugalla the Executive Secretary EATUC among others.
