COTU-K and FKE Bipartite Round-Table Leadership Meeting on Social Dialogue

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions -Kenya (COTU-K) and Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) held a Bipartite Roundtable Leadership Meeting on Social Dialogue. The meeting was to plan for a second phase of the a Joint project that geared at strengthening the Social Dialogue in East Africa as a region with a special focus on Decent work, Consensus and Constructive agreement and an effective dispute handling mechanism

The objective of the project is to strengthen the Institutional Capacity of Social Partners in East Africa to advocate and raise awareness on the importance of free movement of labour and productivity in East Africa member countries.

The Programme is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA) through LO/FTF Council and it has received massive support of regional government officials who are impressed to see workers and employers working together. However, it is worth noting that Social and Labour issues agenda have not been given the prominence and priority they deserve at the EAC regional Cooperation despite the fact that integration of social labour issues will lead to growth of industries and increase in job opportunities which will benefit the government through economic growth.
