The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) on behalf of the entire Kenyan workforce congratulates the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, NOCK Kipchoge Keino for being the first ever Kenyan to receive the coveted Olympic Laurel Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Promotion of sports and support to the vulnerable groups especially the orphaned children in Kenya.

This is indeed a rare recognition not only to the legendary athlete but equally to our country Kenya and COTU (K) calls upon the Kenya government led by our President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to follow suit and emulate this unique world gesture by rallying the whole country to officially receive this Award when the recipient finally lands back in Kenya.

Often Kenya as a country has failed to recognize and appreciate its own heroes and heroines and it is now time we stood up to appreciate just how respected such individuals are in the global world and the decision to extend such an honour to Keino serves to challenge us as a nation on how just great someone could stand out globally at our midst without being noticed by ourselves.

The Kenyan workers wish to witness a spectacular reception organized and extended to the legendary Keino where the entire government including all Cabinet Secretaries are in attendance as we celebrate and appreciate the great performance and achievement by our own son Keino who was noticed and plucked out from billions of other sports administrators, celebrities and owners of charitable organization’s world over.

As patriotic Kenyans and nationalists, we must be proud and equally recognize the sterling performance since exhibited by Keino that has now earned him and Kenya in particular a global recognition in the world of sports and as workers, if called upon to support any such reception, we are ready and willing to do so in honour of this great athlete.
