COTU-(K) holds a Meeting for Shopstewards
The central organization of trade Unions (COTU-K) held a meeting for shopstewards particularly those from Nairobi and its environs on saturday 9th March. The meeting was addressed by all COTU-(K) Executive Board Members and General Secretaries from affiliates present, with the Keynote address coming from the COTU-(K) Secretary General Br. Francis Atwoli.
In His address Bro. Atwoli responded on issues raised by General Secretaries in line of their duty advising them on how to resolve them. In his usual brave, witty and humorous demeanor, Bro Atwoli tackled social ills saddling the Country. Notably Corruption, Interference with Social Security Schemes of the Kenyan workers i.e. NSSF & NHIF, the crisis in the banking sector that has seen three banks put under receivership in recent past by the Central bank of Kenya among many other issues that resonate with the workers plight.
He cautioned the government and all other political leaders that workers will decide on a way forward politically during the upcoming COTU (K) Quinquennial Delegates Conference to be held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on Saturday 21st May 2016. This will be a clear departure from their traditional stance to always remain neutral on political matters.
He also asked shopsteward to mobilize workers to attend in big numbers the upcoming Workers thanks giving Prayer Day to be held on 24th of May 2016 at St. Stephens ACK Makadara Church, and not to miss the climax on May 1st 2016 for the Labour Day.
