As a tradition, the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K)  always holds a workers Thanks Giving Prayer Day at St. Stephen ACK Church along Jogoo Road. This year was not an exception and the prayers were held this morning.The Worker’s Prayer Day is always held on the last Sunday of April which is always the last Sunday proceeding the Labour day Celebrations. As always the umbrella organisation for trade unions in Kenya was led by the Secretary General Bro. Francis Atwoli, its Executive board members and general secretaries and their other officials as well as Shop stewards from all affiliate members who traveled from far and wide for the special prayer day.

Leaders from different spheres of life joined workers on this special day they included; the Cabinet Secretary for Labour Ms Phyllis Kandie and her Principal Secretary as well as numerous Political leaders notably the former Presidential Candidate and now garnering to be the next Governor of Nairobi Mr. Peter Kenneth and The current member of Parliament for Muhoroni Hon. Onyango K’oyoo.

In what has become the norm in recent years, it good to see leaders from all trade unions including those not affiliated to COTU-K i.e Trade Union Congress led by their Secretary General who is also the KNUT supremo Bro. Sossion come together in the true spirit of solidarity to team up with COTU-K leadership  to make the day a success.

The Secretary General in his speech called upon the national government to increase the minimum wage for workers. He also announced that the president had confirmed to attend the Labour Day celebrations to be held tomorrow May 1st 2017,  He said this was a reason enough to rally all workers in Nairobi and Kenyans at large to come in numbers to celebrate the 2017  Labour Day Celebration at Uhuru Park.
