COTU-K Workers Prayer Day At St. Stephen ACK Church
The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) This morning held a Workers Thanks giving Prayer Day At St. Stephen ACK Church along Jogoo Road. In what has become a tradition, the umbrella organisation for trade unions in Kenya was led by its Secretary General Bro. Francis Atwoli, its Executive board members and general secretaries and other officials from affiliate members who braved the chilly and wet weather to pray for the labour market as a whole.
The workers wer joinde by political leaders led by the Rt. Hounarable Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and the former Deputy Primie Minister Hon. Musalia Mudavadi alongside a number of members of parliament and senators, including nominated member of paliament and TNA Chairman Hon. Sakaja and Principal Secretary in the Labour Ministry Khadijah Kassachom.
The Secretary General in his speech called upon the national government to increase the minimum wage for workers. He also prevailed upon the political class to embrace dialogue, to build peace in the run-up to the 2017 general elections noting that Kenyans had lost confidence in the elections body (IEBC) and it would be important to disband and reconstitute it. He also called upon Kenyasn to come in large numbers to celebrate the 2016 National Labour Day Celebration at Uhuru Park on Sunday 1st May 2016.
