Court Orders Immediate Reinstatement of Sacked KQ Engineers & Technicians
The Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) has orderd for immediate reinstatement of fired Kenya Airways (KQ) Engineers and Technicians pending the hearing and determination of the case filed to stop their sacking. The case was filed at ERLC by COTU (K) on behalf of the sacked workers through lawyers Mr. Samuel Aduda of Aduda and Company Advocates along with Mr. Dismus Wambola of Ongoya and Wambola Advocates.
The engineers and technicians are challenging the airline’s decision to sack them on claims they had engaged in unprotected strike.
While giving the order Justice Hellen Wasilwa noted that it would be unsafe for the public to fly in unserviced aircrafts, hence the order that they be reinstated as the case is litigated in court.
The workers from Technical department of KQ including Technicians, Technical Assistants and Engineer had received Termination of Employment letters on 29th November 2017. The workers were all presents at the court this morning along with the lawyers and are more than ready to resume work immediately.
COTU (K) calls upon the management of Kenya Airways to adhere to the Court Order and allow all the workers back to work with immediate effect.
