The Plenary Session got underway on Day 3 of the 106th International Labour Conference, bringing voices from governments, workers’ organizations and employers’ groups from around the globe to the Assembly Hall of Geneva’s historic Palais des Nations. Also on the third day of the Conference: A high-level forum on the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work took place with visitors from several important international organizations; ILO Director-General Guy Ryder paid a visit to a meeting of the Employers’ Group; and the government of Norway hosted a special presentation on Social Dialogue.

A special sitting of the Committee on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work brought together actors from across the United Nations and international system. Speakers included: UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore, the Chairperson of the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights Jamesina Essie L. King, Deputy Director of the UN Development Programme’s Human Development Report Thangavel Palanivel and the World Bank’s Manager and Special Representative to the UN and the WTO in Geneva Jos Verbeek.

Address by Bro. Francis Atwoli to the plenary was one of the main highlights of the day. We also call on Government to improve on governance structures and practices at the Key Social Security Institutions particularly the National Social Security Fund and the National Hospital Insurance Fund.
