KUDHEIHA decries the disharmony between the National and County Governments at the coast
This morning the Bro. Albert Njeru the General Secretary of Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals & Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) an affiliate of COTU-K alongside other officials addressed a press conference at Solidarity Building to decry the disharmony between the National and County Governments at the coast and how it is affecting the tourism sector along the Kenyan coastline.
Bro. Njeru pointed out that the charged political bickering which was triggered by the just concluded Malindi was causing anxiety in the tourism industry. He called upon the National Government to dialogue with the Governors of Mombasa and Kilifi in order to calm down the situation and to return serenity at the coast. The Union expressed its concern with the reports that 4 hotels have closed in Malindi town leading to massive layoffs in the tourism sector. The unemployment situation in turn is escalating civil strife among the youth with deviant behaviors manifesting among citing an example of ‘Project x’ a youth party that was recently banned by the police due to its lewd promotion messages and intended Obscenities.
KUDHEHIA also expressed its displeasure with the runaway corruption that is hurting the economy by scaring away investors in the tourism sector with the biggest beneficiaries of the situation being Tanzania, Mauritius and South Africa, Kenya’s Biggest competitors in the sector. Bro. Njeru pointed out that although the Union was supporting the current government to implement its mandate it was also watching carefully with an intention of making a stand during the next 2017 general election a stand that will be taken to support and safeguard the interest of the workers.
