Launch of ABVV-FGTB Expanded Pan-African Trade Union Education Programme
The Central Organization of Trade Union in conjunction with the Belgian Federation of Labour (ABVV-FGTB) have launched an expanded Pan-African Trade Union Education Programme. This new partnership marks yet another milestone in the development of the PANAF Programme as a unique trade union training platform that has provided the much needed motivation to both COTU-K rank-and-file members and shop-floor leaders to grow into the leadership of the trade union movement.
This programme was initiated 17 years ago and it has realized the development of great trade unionists, the expansion of the program for another 5 years is a greatly welcomed by COTU K and its affiliates. To-date, over 50,000 workers drawn from various affiliates of COTU-K have directly gone through the PANAF Programme in addition to hundreds of Study Circle Leaders now spread across the affiliates and are now doing a great job as far as overall trade union education programmes are concerned.
As a leading and responsible trade union organization on the continent, COTU (K) continues to put more emphasis on the development of the relevant negotiation skills as well as building capacities for its members through education as a hallmark to strengthening the trade union movement in the country and beyond.
In conclusion Bro. Atwoli also addressed the current political impasse where he cautioned the Jubilee party from misusing its majority in parliament is amending election laws against the wishes of the opposition. He encouraged dialogue between President Uhuru and his opponent Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.
