PRESS RELEASE
COTU/ADM 1/1/6/VOL X/82
1st June, 2015
RE: PRESIDENT’S MADARAKA DAY SPEECH
The Central Organisation of Trade Unions, COTU(K) applauds His Excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta on his Madaraka Day address to the nation particularly his call on all Public Officers to manage our resources prudently and in to the benefits of all Kenyans. No doubt this will transform Kenya into a country that is comparable to none in the region.
The President, by citing mismanagement and theft of public resources as the biggest threats to the government, should send out a strong message to all those charged with the responsibility over these resources to advise the President honestly and help him fight the vice as he endeavours to make Kenya graft free lest it would be absurd to note that the very appointees of the President are the same individuals being implicated in corruption and mismanagement of our public resources.
Indeed, president Kenyatta has always reminded Kenyans at every opportune time on the dangers corruption poses to the country and unless we as a people devote ourselves to putting it to an end and looking forward to a country where every Kenyan has equal opportunity irrespective of his/her status, then as a country we are putting a heavy burden to the President and as Kenyan workers we will not sit back and watch the frustrations continue to engulf the President and his government by a few individuals determined to thrive on theft and mismanagement of public resources.
COTU (K) echos the President’s call that let this Madaraka Day be a memorable one where we as Kenyans will all unite against corruption and commit ourselves to a Kenya where equal opportunity and patriotism will be our guiding principles as a Nation.
