COTU-K at the 2017 Open Day for Employment & Labour Relations Court
The 2017 Open Day for Employment & Labour Relations Court was held this morning at the Milimani Commercial Courts Grounds in Upper Hill, Nairobi. Representing Bro. Francis Atwoli the COTU-K Secretary General who was to be the Chief Guest at the event was Bro. Isaiah Kubayi an Executive Board of COTU-K and the General Secretary of Banking Insurance & Finance Union of Kenya.
In his opening remarks he gave an account of how workers fought hard to have the Employment & Labour Relations Court entrenched in the constitution so as to protect it. He went ahead to read the speech prepared Bro. Atwoli’s speech on his behalf. The long serving COTU-K Secretary General challenged the Employment & Labour Relations Court to address the inefficiencies that are frustrating workers who seek redress on labour issues, notably he highlighted the difficulties experienced at the Court’s registry.
Some of the guest who attended the event included Bro. Sossion the KNUT Secretary General who is also TUC Leader, Court of Appeal Justice Waki, Nairobi LSK Chairman Charles Kanjama and Justice Nduma Nderi Employment & Labour Relations Court among many more

The open day event also featured an exhibition area where COTU Kenya, Other unions, Federation of Kenya Employers, Law Society of Kenya and other stakeholders and partners of the Employment & Labour Relations Court exhibited their services and product to the general public. This gave a rare opportunity to Kenyan workers and the general public to interact with the exhibitor and hence learn more about what they do. The COTU-K staff present received many guest and gladly engaged them on what COTU-K does and how they can get helped when faced with Industrial and Labour issues.
