RE: COTU(K) DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL ELECTED AT THE UNI GLOBAL UNION

The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) Deputy Secretary General Bro. Benson Okwaro was yesterday elected unanimously to two high positions of the President for both the Resolutions Committee as well as the Information Communication Technology Sector Committee for the UNI Global Union during the Union’s 4th Congress currently taking place in Cape Town South Africa.

The Information Communication Technology Sector Committee brings together in the telecommunication and Information Technology sectors and Bro. Okwaro will serve in both positions for a period of four years through to the next Congress scheduled in 2018 in Liverpool, UK with this year’s Congress running under the theme ‘Including You’ which encompasses the fight for Union growth and the promotion of a new fairer and sustainable global economy.

UNI Global is a global trade Union federation representing workers in Cleaning and Security, Commerce, Finance, Gaming, Graphical and Packaging, Hair and Beauty, Information, Communication, Technology and Services Industry (ICTS), Media, Entertainment and Arts, Post and Logistics, Social Insurance, Sport, Temp and Agency workers, and Tourism industries as well as Professionals and Managers, Women and Youth, with its headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland and comprising of more than 20 Million Workers from over 900 Trade Unions in this fastest growing sectors in the world.

Bro Okwaro’s election by the world’s biggest Union represented by over 100 Countries from across the world at the Congress depicts the respect and recognition that as a Country Kenya enjoys globally in the world of work. It goes a long way to show how wide the Country’s Labour Movement has built a strong solidarity and friendship and indeed it is a great honour to COTU (K) as well as the Kenyan workers.
