PRESS RELEASE
RE: DECISION BY Ag. CABINET SECRETARY LABOUR TO CONSTITUTE A NEW NSSF BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Central Organisation of Trade Unions, COTU (K) do welcome the decision taken by the Acting Labour, Social Security and Services Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo to constitute a new Board of Trustees to the National Social Security Fund, (NSSF) that includes representation from both the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and COTU (K) on behalf of the Kenyan Employers and Workers respectively.
This move comes at a time when the NSSF is in dire need of a properly constituted Board of Trustees and as Employers and Workers nominees to the Board, COTU(K) undertakes to do all it can together with the rest of the members to reverse any actions taken that are detrimental to the Fund particularly in view of the recent reports on the unauthorised transfer of Funds where as a Board, we want to assure our members that restoring NSSF’s lost glory as well as growing the Fund will be our pre-occupation as we sit on the newly constituted Board.
The Kenyan workers who are the contributors should not despair despite the trying period that NSSF has operated without a Board and they should all be assured that our fight for prudent management of their funds at NSSF will continue undeterred; we will stand firm against any actions that are not in the interest of NSSF and support fully any Investiments aimed at growing the Fund.
COTU (K) remains committed to these ideas and thanks the government together with the Ag. Cabinet Secretary Labour Raychelle Omamo for taking this one important step in constituting a new NSSF Board of Trustees.
