Alleged Dock Workers Union Demo Against Cotu (K)

COTU/ADM 1/VOL XI/43

PRESS RELEASE

RE: ALLEGED DOCK WORKERS UNION DEMO AGAINST COTU (K)

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions, COTU (K) is bemused by reports attributed to the Dock Workers Union, (DWU) General Secretary Simon Sang that the Central Organisation of Trade Unions, COTU (K) Secretary General is interfering in the running of his Union.

Such claims are unfortunate, unfounded and ridiculous to say the least and Brother Sang must be ready to carry his own cross and deal with dissenting voices in his union without invoking the name of COTU (K) Secretary General as Bro. Francis Atwoli has been out of the Country in Geneva, Switzerland for the last three weeks attending the International Labour representing the entire African Workers Organisation (ILO) Governing Body and he is even too busy to spare a single minute for any busy body struggling to catch newspaper headlines.

The problems at the Dock Workers Union are purely a creation of Bro. Sang and he must always remember that the Dock Workers Union was a founder member of COTU (K) and it will not be an easy task for him to move all the members of the Union from COTU (K) to a new unknown entity in the name of a trade union that is yet to be registered with workers not privy to its Constitution nor ideology.

Further, Bro. Sang should be awake to the fact that even a single member dissenting is entitled to his trade union right and democracy and should opt to challenge such members through a battle in Court other than resolve to intimidating his colleagues who are seeking justice in Court as justice is never intimidated.

In the meantime, COTU (K) and its leadership remains absolutely unbothered by any such demonstrations against it and will equally not be diverted from its core mandate to the Kenyan Workers.
