COTU (K) PARTICIPATES IN ENHANCING JUST TRANSITION AND EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES FOR NPC PROGRAM TRAINING WORKSHOP

COTU (K) participated in a training workshop from 13 th -17 th July 2026 in Nanyuki, Laikipia County
under the Nature, People and Climate (NPC) Program organized by NETFUND-Kenya and ILO.
The training workshop focused on strengthening the integration of Just Transition and Decent
Work principles in the implementation of the NPC Program, which, through its three pillars,
supports Nature-Based Solutions to help bridge the gap between climate mitigation and
adaptation financing. The three pillars of the NPC Program are Nature Capital aimed at
restoration of degraded ecosystem, Nature People aimed at promotion of livelihoods of the local
communities, and Nature Ventures aimed at stimulating private sector investment in nature-
based solutions.
Inclusion of Just Transition and Decent Work principles in the implementation of the NPC Program is
significant because it indicates that the program will not only deliver environmental benefits but also
equitable social and economic outcomes. Through these principles, the program will ensure that no
one is left behind and advocating for labour rights, promotion of social dialogue through
consultations between the community the government and program implementers, creation of
decent and green jobs, protection of the existing livelihoods during the transition, and improvement
of occupational safety and health standards among others.
