COTU (K) partners with Solidarity Center in the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to informal workers

The Central Organization of Trade Unions in Kenya COTU (K) in Partnership with the Solidarity Center under the Program COTU CARES  donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to informal workers at COTU-(K) headquarters.

Present, during the launch of the distribution drive, were Bro. Albert Njeru, General Secretary, for the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA); Sis. Rose Omamo, General Secretary, for the Amalgamated Union of Kenya Metal Workers (AUKMW); Bro. Boniface Kavuvi, General Secretary, for the Kenya Union of Commercial, Food and Allied Workers (KUCFAW); and Bro. Nicholas Mbugua, General Secretary, for the Kenya Long Distance Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union (KLDTAWU).

The Informal Workers associations were represented by officials from  Nairobi Informal Sector Confederation (NISCOF), Muthurwa Cleaners Association,  Grogon Ngara Food Vendors Association, Muthurwa Food Court Vendors Association,  Migingo Mechanics Self Help Group and Ambira Jua Kali Association. 

While flagging off the distribution, the General Secretaries emphasized on the importance of observing Occupational Health and Safety Measures to reduce novel Covid-19 infections at workplaces. Personal Protective Equipment provided, through the partnership with Solidarity Center, includes 4,000 KN95 face masks, 620 liters of hand washing liquid soap, 2,000 disposable surgical hand gloves, 100 industrial hand gloves, 175,000 ml of hand sanitizers, 100 soap containers, and 9 Thermoguns. 

#COTUCARES program continues to reach out to workers in the formal and informal sectors who have been adversely negatively affected by the novel Covid-19.
