THE 355TH SESSION OF ILO GOVERNING BODY 2025
ILO Governing Body 355th Session

COTU(K) Secretary General , DR. Francis Atwoli attended the 355th session of the International Labour Organization (ILO) governing body which was held on 17th to 27th November 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.The 355th session convened to review a broad agenda of policy and country level labour matters including follow up from the second world summit for social development and updates on the global coalition for social justice.The delegates present considered proposals to enhance the ILO`s effectiveness and efficiency , which is part of a wider institutional reform called for in light of changing global multilateral dynamics.

On the work front, a key theme addressed labour market informality:participants reviewed an action plan (2026-2031) aimed at promoting transition from informal to formal employment,enhancing decent work globally ,especially for vulnerable groups.The session also involved discussion of country specific developments, including implementation of resolutions affecting labour standards and human rights situations in states such as Belarus,Myanmar,Venezuela and Guatemala.Finally,the session reviewed preparations and priorities for future ILO work including the agenda for the next international labour conference and debated how the ILO can remain robust and relevant amidst global economic ,political and institutional shifts
